Copper Plate, Hand Colored This Dutch map that shows the south east portion of the North American coast. The bottom vignette shows a well known image of the Dutch colony "Nieuw Amsterdam", modern day New York. This image is flanked by two indigenous figures. Vessels are present in the ocean, of note are the two canoes with indigenous people rowing. Information is provided in Latin. Two compass roses adorn the oceans. The interior of the continent is well decorated with various images of native wild life. The largest of which is an image of an Indian village. Images of this size and detail of indigenous settlements are not common in maps of this period.

Diese erste separate niederländische Karte der Bermudas ist die am meisten gedruckte und technisch brillianteste Karte der Bermudas im 17. Jahrhundert. (Palmer, S. 10). Copper Plate, Hand Colored This map was based on the map by John Speed's map of 1626 with different decorations. This is the first Dutch map of Bermuda and is the most technically brilliant printed map of the region in the 17th Century. On the top left is a cartouche with comparative measurements. Centered above the island group is the title cartouche which is accompanied by Neptune and other maritime images. Above the island group a compass rose is shown on the right hand side. The map is in Latin. At the bottom of the map is a table with a list of landowners. Die Karte basiert auf Speed´s Karte von 1626. Die Dekoration ist neu. Diese erste separate niederländische Karte der Bermudas ist die am meisten gedruckte und technisch brillianteste Karte der Bermudas im 17. Jahrhundert. Oben links befindet sich eine Kartusche mit Maßangaben. Oberhalb der Inselgruppe befindet sich die Titelkartusche. Diese wird begleitet von Neptun und weiteren Maritimen Darstellungen. Ebenfalls oberhalb der Inselgruppe ist eine Kompaßrose verzeichnet. Die Karte ist auf Latein beschriftet. Landeseigene Bezeichnungen sind in Landessprache gehalten. Am unteren Rand der Karte befindet sich eine Auflistung der Landbesitzer. Diese Wiederrum sind anhand der Zahlen auf den Inseln nachzulesen. Dadurch ist ein Übeblick über die Landwirtschaftliche Verteilung möglich.

Copper Plate, Hand Colored This maps shows the states of New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pensylvania and Hamshire in color.The neighbouring states are outlined. The top left has a very detailed title cartouche with a European in contemporary clothing centered with workers. Native wildlife fills the bordering area. The continental states are separated from the interior by a large mountain range. Comments in German are listed in between the ranges and towards the edge of the map. Historically, Eastern Pennsylvania had the largest concentration of German speaker in the United States. The bottom right has a key of buildings and notable locations and a comparative mile scale.

	Amerika Schenk, Peter ca. 1700 handcolour. 57,2 x 48,3 cm Copper Plate, Hand Colored This is a wonderful map of the Americas that shows California as an island. Two remarkable carouches are present, one for each continent. The upper left shows North America with Europeans in a prominent conquering position with swords and globes. Mythical and sophisticated allegories are superbly interwoven into this image. The bottom cartouche is for South America around the base of the title Indians gather in contemporary dress, to exchange goods including a Lama. In the background is the Andes mountain range. In this cartouche the publishers details are shown. A large part of North America is still unknown and is left blank and the shoreline of Lake Superior is not complete. Colonial territories of the European powers are clearly highlighted and the home regions of the individual tribes are noted. The outline of the island of Tierra del Fuego is visible, dispelling the myth that South America was connected with Antarctica. In the Western Pacific Ocean are some well known land masses around Australia. In the east the western coast of Spain is shown. The labels on the maps are placed strategically so to give the reader the impression that the continents are well explored. Schöne Karte von Amerika, mit einem auf Sanson-Jaillot beruhenden Modell von Nordamerika. Californien wird als Insel dargestellt. Auffallend sind die beiden großen Kartuschen, eine für jeden Teil des Kontinents. Oben links die Titelkartusche für Nordamerika. Prächtig eingebunden in eine Szenerie mythischer und mondäner Allegorien. Im Hintergrund ein Tempel. Vorn Götterdarstellungen, europäische Entdecker und Eroberer mit Eingeborenem. Deutlich wird die übergeordnete Stellung der Europäer. Am unteren Rand die Titelkartusche für Südamerika. Ein Sockel bildet die Grundlage. Um diesen herum scharen sich Indianer in Tracht mit Tauschgütern und Lama. Im Hintergrund die Anden. In dieser Kartusche Privileg und Verlegeradresse. Ein großer Teil von Nordamerika ist noch unbekannt. Die Küstenlinie des Lake Superior ist nicht vollendet. Die kolonialen Gebiete der europäischen Mächte sind deutlich hervorgehoben, aber noch nicht weiter unterteilt. Die Heimatregionen der einzelnen Indianerstämme sind vermerkt. Der Inselcharakter von Feuerland ist erkennbar. Der Mythos einer Verbindung mit dem großen südlichen Kontinent wurde hier nicht aufrecht gehalten. Im Westen sind einige bekannte Ausläufer der Landmassen um Australien vermerkt, auch wenn diese sehr fehlerhaft sind. Im Osten sind noch Teile Europas abgebildet. Schenk variiert in den Positionen der Beschriftungen. Er erwerkt nicht den Eindruck, dass die beiden Kontinente durchgehend gut erforscht wären.

It shows the area from the St. Lawrence River to the Mississippi River with the states of Florida, Louisiana, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, New England, Acadia, Canada, Illinois and Newfoundland the map shows both states and provinces. In some cases, the names of the peoples living there are listed. A large secondary map on the top right shows the entrance to the Mississippi. On the bottom right a different map shows both the city of Quebec and the area surrounding the city. The city of Quebec has played an important historic role in French interests in The Americas. The interior of The West contains many images of both caravans and Indians. Three compass roses are present, all of the same orientation. The top right contains the latitude and longitude of different cities of note in the area. In the upper left part of a decorated insert map of an overview of the Gulf of Mexico and the entrance to the Mississippi. A mileage scale is present in the top right. The bottom right contains a double inset map of Quebec the second oldest European colony in North America. In both maps the cities maritime character is marked by sailing ships. The fortification around the city are clearly shown. On the left hand side of the main map is a cartouche containing French text. This states the discovery in 1535 of St. Lawrence River, the discovery of the Mississippi in 1673 and the Great Lakes are described. Overall, only a few cities and colonies are listed. Images of indigenous peoples engaged in everyday activities and hunting and native wildlife are scattered across the map. In New Mexico, large farms are located. In the seas are many sailing ships to represent the intensive movements of trading vessels in the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa. Shallow areas are shown dotted. Ausgezeichnete Karte von Osten Nordamerikas. Sie zeigt die Gebiete vom St. Lorenz-Strom bis zum Mississippi mit den Staaten Florida, Louisiana, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, New England, Akadien, Kanada, Illinois, Neufundland. Die Karte zeigt sowohl Staaten als auch Provinzen. In einigen Fällen werden auch die Namen der dort lebenden Völker verwendet. Im oberen linken Teil befindet sich eine verzierte Insetkarte mit einer Übersicht über den Golf von Mexiko. Eine kleinere Kartusche gibt Auskunft über die Grenzen. Ein Meilenzeiger hilft zur Orientierung. Unten rechts eine weitere Insetkarte. Diese zeigt neben einer perspektivischen Aufsicht auch eine Ansicht der Stadt Quebec, der zweitältesten europäischen Kolonie in Nordamerika. In beiden Darstellungen ist der maritime Charakter durch Segelschiffe markiert. Es ist heute die einzige Stadt in Nordamerika, deren Festungsanlagen heute noch intakt sind.Am linken Rand der Hauptkarte befindet sich eine Informationskartusche. Sie erzählt über den 1535 entdeckten St. Lorenz-Strom und die Entdeckung des Mississippi 1673. Außerdem werden die Großen Seen beschrieben. Insgesamt sind nur wenige Städte oder Kolonialgründungen verzeichnet. Die Karte wird gefüllt durch charakteristische Zeichnungen. In den relativ unerforschten Landesecken informiert der Urheber über typische Spezialitäten. So werden zahlreiche Tiere eingezeichnet und die Siedlungen der Ureinwohner, sowie andere Eigenarten. Die Ureinwohner werden während der Jagd und im normalen Leben gezeigt. In Neu-Mexiko sind große Farmen eingezeichnet. Diese Zeichnungen beschränken sich aber auf den westlichen dargestellten Teil. Der Osten verzeichnet ausschliesslich topographische und geographische Informationen. Schriftliche Zusatzinformationen zu Besonderheiten finden sich auf der gesamten Karte. In den Meeren sind zahlreiche Segelschiffe zu erkennen, ein Zeichen regen Verkehrs mit der Karibik, Südamerika, Europa und Afrika. Aber auch kleinere Schiffe mit Anglern und Waldarstellungen dienen als Verzierungen. Untiefen werden punktiert dargestellt.

Copper Plate, Hand Colored This New World map shows some of the most interesting Illustrations of indigenous peoples of the period. Great settlements and trading centers of the Americas in this period are at the top including Mexico, Cusco, Potosi, Havana, St Domingo, La Mocha Island, Rio de Janerio and Olinda. Discoveries and trade of the Eastern coast was far more developed than in the West. This is reflected in the accuracy and detail of this map. In the center of North America is a smaller map containing Greenland, Iceland and the surrounding area. The legendary island of Friesland is shown, this a common occurrence in maps of this period. The equator and the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are clearly marked. French, British and other ships fill the ocean as well as several sea monsters. In 1621 the Dutch West India Company was founded. The greatest achievements of the company was the establishment of a colony of New Netherlands in 1624, and the founding the city of Nieuw Amsterdam, now New York. The company had many rivals and since 1674 focused on the slave trade in Africa. The Ila Mocha in Chile was a source of fresh water of European explorers. Potosi was a vibrant city principally due to the discovery of silver in 1545 silver. By 1600 Potosi was one of the largest cities in the world with almost 100,000 inhabitants with a cathedral, government buildings and a huge mint. Unlike many maps of the period, this maps southern most point ends at Tierra del Fuego. The great unknown southern continent is not shown here. Unexplored areas in South America are filled with representations of indigenous people. Berühmte Amerika-Karte mit ausgemalter Kartusche, figürlicher und maritimer Staffage. Eingefasst mit drei Bildleisten: seitlich je fünf Trachtenpaare, oben neun kleine kolorierte Stadtansichten: Havana, Cartagena, St. Domingo, Mexiko, Cuzco, Rio de Janeiro, Olinda, Potisi. Es waren wichtige Umschlagplätze, Zentren für Zuckerrohr und die wichtigste Silbermine der Welt. Die Ila Mocha in Chile war eine Frischwasserquelle der europäischen Entdecker. Potosi hingegen war eine äußerst lebendige Stadt, 1545 war hier die Silbermine entdeckt worden. Schließlich wurde Potosi um 1600 die größte Stadt der Welt mit nahezu 100 000 Einwohnern, eine bedeutende Konkurrenz für Amsterdam und London. Obwohl es dort bereits eine Kathedrale, Regierungsgebäude sowie eine riesige Prägeanstalt gab, sind diese Feinheiten in der Vignette nicht verzeichnet. Eventuell waren die Daten für Blaeu nicht vollständig. Die Cartagena-Vignette zeigt das Fort El Bouqueron, das von San Sebastian del Pastelillo ersetzt wurde und nicht mehr existiert.
