Asien/China Ortelius / Coignet, 1601 M 12 x 9 cm Copper Plate, Hand Colored This is the miniature edition of Ortelius' important map of China. Parts of Japan and Tartary are shown. The Great Wall is correctly shown in the north and is interrupted by mountains. The map is westerly orientated. This map comes from the third edition of “Ortelius'Theatrum”. These maps were copied from Phillip Galle's maps of the region printed in 1598. Ambrose and Ferdinand engraved the map with additional borders and a grid reference. Das ist die Minatur-Ausgabe von Ortelius´ wichtiger Karte von China. Neben China sind noch Teile von Japan und der Tartarei verzeichet. Auffällig groß stellt sich die Chinesische Mauer dar. Sie wird als ein nur durch Gebirge unterbrochenes Bauwerk aufgeführt. Die Karte ist nach Westen gerichtet. Die Karte stammt aus dem dritten Epitome von Ortelius´Theatrum. Diese Kartenausgabe wurde von Philipp Galles kopiert (letzte Ausgabe von 1598). Ambrose und Ferdinand Arsenius stachen die Karte mit weiter Umrandung mit Längen- und Breitenangaben.
