The extensive geographical activities of the Jesuits are acknowledged in the panel of text engraved on the left of the map. Coronelli may also have colaborated with the French map-maker Jean Nicholas de Tillemont in assembling the most up-to-date geographical information on Asia. Australia´s western and northern coast appear complete; Tasmania and part of New Zealand are also represented, these inclusions reflecting Abel Tasman`s first voyage of discovery (1642-1643).
